Assisted living home evacuates due to fire in Grand Island

13 residents were evacuated thanks to employees

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KLKN) – A fire forced 13 residents at the Edgewood Memory Care Assisted Living Home to be evacuated early Thursday morning, according to Grand Island Police.

Employees at the facility helped evacuate residents.

“We’re very appreciative of people who used their personal vehicles to get residents inside somewhere so they’re out of the cold,” says Sgt. Megan Johnson. “Then Head Start had an employee come down who was willing to open their doors so we could transfer people over there until we could figure where everyone will go, so really appreciate everyone coming together to help us out and help the residents out.”

It’s currently unknown what caused the fire at this time.
