Athlete of the Week: Crete’s Peyton Steuer and Landry Kuntz

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Beatrice hosted the Crete Cardinals in Channel 8’s Game of the Week on Friday.

The Orangemen were within one score with only two minutes left. The game that came down to the last possession, and the Cardinals were able to stop Beatrice.

The 28-21 victory marks the second season in a row that Crete was able to take down the Orangemen.

Before Crete’s head coach, Josh Littrell, was brought in in December of 2024, the Cardinals had not beat Beatrice in over a decade.

The team said that has made the past two wins even sweeter.

Coach Littrell said he changed the positions of some players after he was hired to best use the talents of each student athlete.

Senior Peyton Steuer, who used to be a quarterback, was moved to the wide receiver and defensive back positions.

On Friday, Steuer recorded 91 receiving yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

Another key element to Crete’s offense is junior wide receiver and cornerback Landry Kuntz.

Kuntz had arguably the most defining play of the game on Friday as he returned a pick six for a touchdown.

Kuntz also recorded 111 receiving yards and one more touchdown before the game’s conclusion.

Crete will continue district play in week six, as they are set to host Lexington on Oct. 2.
