Beatrice expecting Big Blue River levels to drop throughout Sunday

Portions of Beatrice remain closed Sunday morning as water levels in the Big Blue River remain high.

Lisa Wiegand, the Emergency Manager for Gage County, said the West Court Bridge and South 6th Street/Highway 77 bridge remain closed and are expected to stay closed for several days as flood waters are still covering the roadways.

Officials expect water levels in the Big Blue River to begin dropping by mid-morning on Sunday, but caution that levels will remain high for the next week.

At this time no evacuations have been ordered in Beatrice.

Wiegand said the National Guard remains on standby if medical patients needs to be transported from the south end of town to the north end.

Officials are asking residents to remain vigilant and to not drive around barriers blocking off flooded streets.
