Beloved Grand Island Police Investigator passes away at just 42-years-old

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Grand Island Police Department announced the passing of Investigator Christopher Marcello on Thursday morning.

A social media post reveals he died from natural causes at just 42-years-old.

Marcello started his career with GIPD in 2013, but officials say he was a hero long before that.

For 23 years he served in the US Army National Guard Alpha Troop 1/134th Calvary Squadron.

Police say Marcello was deployed several times to Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Closer to home, we’re told he was passionate about protecting children.

Marcello not only worked as a Child Abuse Investigator, but was also a School Resource Officer at Grand Island Senior High during his time with the department.

Everyone is asked to please pray for his family during this difficult situation.
