Beware of porch pirates after Lincoln man’s package stolen

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – With the holiday season approaching, more and more packages are being delivered to front doors across Lincoln.

And that also means porch pirates will be on the prowl.

On Saturday, a viewer sent Channel 8 a video of one such scallywag walking up to his front door and taking his package near 40th and C Streets.

Angel Figueroa said he didn’t think anything of his doorbell camera alerting him of movement because his mail typically comes at around that same time.

When Figueroa arrived home, he realized that his package wasn’t there. He then checked the footage from the doorbell camera and saw the thief.

Neighbors say it’s shocking and a little concerning.

“It’s scary,” Francesca Gutierrez said. “I hope it doesn’t happen to us or to this neighborhood again.”

Gutierrez said she is going to be more aware of when her packages are coming and keep track of them through apps on her phone.

There are several ways to keep your packages safe.

One way would be giving instructions to the deliverer to place the package in a less visible spot.

Amazon users can have packages shipped to an Amazon hub, where they will be held in a locker for you to pick up.
