LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – President Joe Biden released a statement on Wednesday announcing he will be extending the pause on student loan repayment for an additional 90 days.

The student loan repayment pause that was set to expire on Jan. 31, will now last through May 1.

“We know that millions of student loan borrowers are still coping with the impacts of the pandemic and need some more time before resuming payments,” wrote Biden.

Biden says the Department of Education plans to work with borrowers to ensure they have the support they need to transition back into repayment.

Biden also suggests borrowers look into options to lower payments through income-based repayment plans or public service loan forgiveness.
