Bill banning gender-affirming health care for youth advances in Nebraska Legislature
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – After three days of debate, a bill that would ban gender-affirming health care for minors advanced in the Nebraska Legislature.
On Thursday, lawmakers voted to advance the bill, which was introduced by Sen. Kathleen Kauth, 30-17. Two senators did not vote on the bill.
Debate on the proposed law came after three weeks of filibuster efforts, led by Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh.
The bill will now go through the enrollment and review process, which is where it will be checked for technical and grammatical accuracy.
Cavanaugh said earlier this week that she would resume her filibuster if the bill was advanced.
