OMAHA, Neb. (KLKN) – The City of Omaha Parks & Recreation announced on Facebook that vandals have damaged the lighting system on the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge.

Due to the damage done by vandals, the lights on the upper portion of the bridge will remain turned off for the foreseeable future.

Omaha Parks successfully repaired the main lights on the lower portion of the bridge and they will remain activated.

“It is disheartening to see this kind of action taken against one of our iconic city features. We ask our community and visitors to help us preserve and respect these special landmarks and facilities,” said Omaha Parks in a Facebook post.

Omaha Police say preliminary reports show the cost of damages to be around $90,000.
