UPDATE: South Lincoln garage fire causes nearly $300,000 in damage

The fire broke out around 7:20 a.m. at a home near 27th and Old Cheney.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Emergency crews responded to an attached garage fire in south Lincoln Wednesday.

The fire broke out around 7:20 a.m. at a home near 27th and Old Cheney.

The fire caused damage throughout the home, the most significant of which appeared to be in the garage. The structural damage is estimated to cost $175,000. About $80,000 in contents was damaged plus a $40,000 Dodge Ram Pickup.

According to Lincoln Fire and Rescue, the cause of the fire was two gasoline fuel tanks placed next to a kerosene heater that the owner turned on.

Several neighbors told a Channel 8 Eyewitness News reporter on the scene that the man who lives in the house made it out. It is unclear if the man was injured.
