BREAKING: one suspect is dead at the scene of mass shooting in Jacksonville

UPDATE: Florida authorities say one suspect is dead at the scene after a fatal mass shooting at a riverfront mall in Jacksonville.

But on its Twitter feed, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says it’s unknown at this time if there’s a second suspect and searches are being conducted.

The sheriff’s office says multiple people have been killed in the shooting.

The department says to “stay far away from the area. The area is not safe at this time. STAY AWAY.” They also warned news media to stay away from the area, which contains restaurants and shops along the St. Johns River.

UPDATE: The Associated Press is reporting that a suspect in the shooting has been killed at the scene. 

Local authorities report at least four people have been killed and around a dozen more injured.

Police in Jacksonville, Florida, said they are investigating a mass shooting that erupted Sunday afternoon at a venue in a popular area of the city, where officials are warning people to stay away.

It was not immediately clear how many victims were shot in the incident, which occurred just before 2 p.m. in the Jacksonville Landing section of the city.

"#LandingMassShooting at the Jacksonville Landing. Stay far away from the area. The area is not safe at this time," the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office tweeted Sunday afternoon.

Agents from the federal Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were headed to the scene to assist in the investigation, the agency confirmed.
