Bryan Medical Center receives grant to develop residency programs in rural Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Bryan Medical Center has been awarded a $750,000 federal grant from the Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration.

The grant will go towards developing Nebraska’s first rural family medicine residency program.

“Our rural communities need a strong pipeline of physicians who are trained to meet the unique healthcare needs of the patients they serve,” said Pat Ganyo, system vice president and vice president of rural services, Bryan Health. “This federal investment will help us build that pipeline right here in Nebraska while expanding access to primary care, maternal health services and comprehensive family medicine for future generations.”

Bryan Medical Center is among 15 other recipients nationwide.

The first few students of the residency program are expected to be welcomed in 2029, with the program growing to full capacity by 2031.
