A single vehicle Nemaha County, Kansas crash has claimed the life of a 20-year-old Lincoln, Neb. woman, Ashley Vaughn. According to Kansas Highway Patrol Vaughn’s Jeep Grand Cherokee crashed Wednesday night, September 9th, but was not discovered until September 11th.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says she was eastbound on U.S. Highway 36, 1.5 miles south of Oneida, when the Jeep went off the south shoulder. The vehicle then came back across the roadway, and then ran off the north shoulder. The Jeep entered a field, jumped a creek, hit an embankment, and then rolled into trees.
Vaughn, not wearing a seat belt, was ejected.
The crash happened around 11:15 September 9th, but due to the terrain obscuring the wreckage from the roadway, it wasn’t discovered until around 8 a.m. Friday September 11th.
We spoke with her sister, who had this to say about Ashley:
"Ashley was a beautiful loving and carrying person. She loved everyone she met. She was like a magnet. It’s like everyone was drawn to her. She had so many friends. She loved going out to Pla Mor ballroom and line dancing every Sunday. It was her favorite thing to do along with playing with her 7 year old niece Lily and her 11 year old cousin Skylar. She worked in Sabetha KS at Sabetha Manor and all her residents loved her. She will be missed by many people," Shelby Skillian, Vaugh’s sister said.
