UPDATE: Man cited after car vs. pole accident knocks out power to some residents

UPDATE: Authorities cited a man after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a utility pole Monday.

The accident happened just after 3 p.m. Monday near SW 32nd and West A Street.

Authorities say the vehicle, driven by Todd Whitted, 49, hydroplaned and struck the pole. Two passengers were taken to the hospital, but police say their injuries were not life-threatening.

One person was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle, officials said.

Whitted received several citations for violations including careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.

The crash knocked out power to some nearby residents, but that has since been restored.
