Christmas in July: YMCA of Lincoln Brings Holiday Spirit to Local Students

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Every year the YMCA of Lincoln hosts the Giving Tree initiative around Christmas. Last year, the number of children served doubled. Due to this, the YMCA of Lincoln has launched its Christmas in July program to help children before the holiday season.
The Giving Tree initiative includes providing Christmas gifts for students. Last year, the number of children nearly doubled to 1,400 children.
“Meeting the needs of 1,400 children last Christmas took the whole community pulling together,” said Renee Yost, President and CEO. “We’re launching Christmas in July because that kind of support takes time to build, and we want to be ready well before the holidays arrive.”
The Christmas in July fundraiser is a month-long fundraiser and donation initiative.
Community members can support Christmas in July by donating online, dropping a gift at their local YMCA or sponsoring a child throughout the month of July.
