City breaks ground on StarTran’s Transportation Center

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — On Sept. 22, Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird, along with community and transportation representatives, broke ground on the StarTran’s Multi-modal Transportation Center.

The facility will have 19 covered outdoor bus bays, green spaces, access to BikeLNK and ScooterLNK, restrooms, indoor and outdoor waiting areas and more.

“Thousands of Lincolnites depend on StarTran as an affordable transportation option for traveling to work, school, the doctor’s office or the grocery store,” Gaylor Baird said. “Which is why the city is building a new public transportation hub that will make bus travel and transfers easier, help reduce traffic congestion, protect our excellent air quality, and support residents’ economic opportunity.”

The $33 million facility is expected to improve StarTran’s operational efficiency. StarTran is the City of Lincoln’s bus system.

The building is scheduled to be completed in spring 2028.
