City Council member cited on suspicion of DUI after hitting tree, Lincoln Police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln City Council member Tammy Ward was cited Tuesday on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing into a tree, police say.

The crash happened around 9:40 p.m. near 20th Street and Surfside Drive, according to Lincoln Police.

When officers arrived they found a Toyota Corolla had crashed into a tree.

Ward, 63, had been heading east on Surfside Drive when she hit a parked vehicle, left the road and ran into the tree, police say.

She was then taken to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Blood was drawn from Ward after officers found evidence of alcohol use.  Police say the results are still pending.

Ward was then cited and released on suspicion of DUI and negligent driving.

Ward has served in the Lincoln City Council as the Northwest District 4 chair since being elected in 2019.
