Cloudy, Cooler Friday Ahead of Weekend Heat

One last mild day in southeast Nebraska before another jump in temperatures this weekend. Highs today will reach the 80s with overcast skies continuing through the afternoon and into the evening.

Heat will make headlines again this weekend, with heat alerts going into place on Saturday afternoon across the state. A Heat Advisory will be in effect for most of the state from 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, until 10 p.m. CDT on Monday, July 27. Feels-like temperatures will range from 100-110° statewide, with locally higher values possible in far eastern Nebraska.

  • Start hydrating now and continue to do so through the weekend.
  • Give yourself plenty of breaks from the heat when spending extended time outdoors.
  • Monitor yourself and others for signs of heat illness.
  • Those who are sensitive to the heat should plan to spend time indoors during the hours of peak heat.

Light showers will remain in the forecast through the morning commute, though we should not need the umbrella for too long on Friday.

Following a chance for morning showers, expect mostly cloudy skies for the rest of our Friday. Chances for fog increase on Saturday morning, with additional cloud cover arriving on Saturday afternoon.

High temperatures across the state will range from the lower 80s in eastern Nebraska to the upper 90s in the panhandle. Western Nebraska is giving us a preview of what is to come this weekend.

Lows by early Saturday morning will fall to the middle and upper 60s. With high dewpoints, patchy areas of fog will be possible for the start of the weekend.

Partly cloudy skies in the Capital City tonight, with a brief period of clearing by early Saturday morning. Low-level cloud cover could develop close to sunrise, with temperatures falling to the upper 60s.

Feels-like temperatures could reach dangerous levels this weekend across the state, as many of us brace for the triple digits on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

Periodic rain chances return to the forecast by the middle of next week, which will help bring highs down to manageable levels by the end of next week. After this weekend, temperatures look to range from the upper 80s to lower 90s through the end of the month.
