Columbus attic fire caused by lightning strike

COLUMBUS, Neb. (KLKN) — Around 8:45 a.m. on Sept. 29, the Columbus Fire Department (CFD) responded to an attic fire that was determined to be caused by a lightning strike.

CFD crews were dispatched Tuesday morning after reports of a residential structure fire. When they arrived, they found smoke showing from the roofline.

According to CFD, firefighters worked for 50 minutes to control the fire due to the complex layout of the house and the fire’s location.

The residence was unoccupied at the time of the fire. No civilians or firefighters were injured.

The residence sustained significant damage throughout.

Fire officials determined the fire was caused by a lightning strike.
