Community Action opening new facility in Lincoln

There will be nine classrooms that will be open seven hours a day, at no cost to families.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Community Action Head Start will be opening a new facility in Lincoln soon.

Located on 26th and N streets, there will be nine classrooms that will be open seven hours a day at no cost to families.

“Early education is really critical for the health of our community, young adults, but also families. And this will set the stage for our community for years to come,” said Clay Smith, General Partner of Speedway Properties.

For Community Action, they say family is a key part of the program.

“The family is a huge piece of our program. So we’re not only providing that service for the children while they’re here, we’re supporting the families and their goals and their dreams so that they can have lifelong success and not have to worry about, you know, where am I going to sleep at night?” said Janelle Maybee, Enrollment and Compliance Coordinator with Community Action.

They plan on opening the new facility sometime in the fall.

In addition to looking for staff members, they are also looking for donations to help get the items needed for the interior of the building like cribs, cots, storage cubbies, and other essential items.
