Court date for Huskers’ Maurice Washington set for after season opener
The next court date for embattled Nebraska running back Maurice Washington has been scheduled, a court spokesman said.
A preliminary hearing in Washington’s case is set for the morning of September 3, spokesman Benjamin Rada said. That comes three days after the Huskers’ season opener on August 31 against South Alabama.
Washington faces felony child porn and misdemeanor ‘revenge porn’ charges in California, stemming from an incident where he allegedly sent a video of his ex-girlfriend allegedly being sexually assaulted to her. Authorities said Washington did not take the video, nor did he participate in the alleged assault.
Coach Scott Frost reiterated his stance at Big Ten Media Days last week that the team will wait until the case is resolved before determining any potential disciplinary actions
“We’re gonna wait and see how it all turns out with Maurice,” Frost said. “He’s been doing a pretty good job in the weight room and with the team, but we won’t make any decisions on status or anything until we know that his legal problems are over and I don’t wanna guess on which way we’ll land, depending on what happens.”
The September hearing will be to help determine if there is enough evidence for the case to go to trial, Rada said.
