COVID-19 vaccines for children under 5 have arrived in Lancaster County

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – COVID-19 vaccines for children ages 6 months to 5 years will be available soon in Lancaster County.

Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Director Pat Lopez announced Thursday that the health department received shipments of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for the age group.

The CDC gave final approval for the vaccine on Sunday.

“Having vaccines available now for that 6-month through 5-year group is actually quite important,” Dr. Sian Jones-Jobst said.

Parents can now go to the health department’s website to register for a vaccine appointment.  They can also call the department at 402-441-4200.

“Vaccinations are critical in preventing many childhood diseases like chickenpox, flu, measles, mumps, polio and whooping cough,” Lopez said.  “As I mentioned, the COVID-19 vaccine is another safe and effective vaccine that will help protect and keep children healthy.”
