UPDATE: One dead, two critically injured following home explosion

Authorities are asking people to avoid the area.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Updated at 9:40 a.m.

Omaha Fire Battalion Chief Scott Fitzpatrick reports one fatality following a home explosion at 4810 S. 51st St.

Two more were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Heavy black smoke could be seen coming from the home several blocks away.

Two nearby homes were also damaged by the fire.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.


Emergency crews are responding to a reported home explosion in Omaha.

Omaha Police say the explosion happened near 51st and L St. shortly after 8 a.m.

OPD and Omaha Fire are on the scene.

It’s unclear at this time what caused the explosion or whether anyone was inside the home at the time.
