Crime Tip Tuesday: Safe surfing

These tips are good for both kids and parents to follow while they're on the web.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – This week we’re talking about ways to keep kids safe in cyberspace, but these tips are just as relevant to parents.

One thing we could all do a little more often: check your mood before you post or comment. Things posted in anger may be embarrassing later on, and it’s essentially impossible to wipe something you regret from the internet.

We can sometimes be too generous with information shared on the internet, so remember to never give out your full name, personal details, information, or too many photographs of you and your family.

If you’re going out of town, don’t post about it. You never know who’s out there watching, waiting for an invitation to stop by your home while you’re not around.

Be aware of phishing activity. The people who are trying to get your information will attempt to make things look legitimate and authentic, so keep a close eye on where you’re putting your information.
