Cyclospora, the illness that causes extreme diarrhea, has hit Lancaster County
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD) confirmed five cases of Cyclospora in Lancaster County.
The illness caused by the Cyclospora parasite is an intestinal illness that could cause lengthy symptoms.
The LLCHD says they are investigating what caused the cases.
“This is an evolving situation and we’re conducting interviews with community members who have contracted the illness. So far, we know the illness was acquired here in the United States in four of our cases, but we haven’t yet determined a common source and if the cases are connected to the national outbreaks,” said Kerry Kernen, Health Director.
The LLCHD said there is typically Cyclospora cases during travel season and the numbers of cases are not above average right now.
