Daughter of man slain at Branched Oak Lake remembers his fun-loving spirit
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Payton Case was celebrating her 18th birthday on Wednesday when she found out her father, Benjamin J. Case, had been shot and killed the night before at Branched Oak Lake.
Channel 8 spoke with Case about why she wants her dad to be remembered for his fun, happy spirit and always wanting to be on the water.
“He was obsessed with being out at the lake,” Case said. “He lived out on his boat for a few years now. He loved having all of his friends on the boat.”
Payton was on the boat just an hour before her father was shot. She is happy that justice will hopefully be done.
“I didn’t expect the arrest to be so fast either,” Case said. “I was expecting it to take a while, but it didn’t. I am glad that they found him.”

Last Wednesday night, a vigil was held at the lake for Ben. Candles were put around the dock where he kept his boat, and some of his favorite music was played.
Payton described to us all the people who were there and the stories that were told. She is feeling loved by others all around her.

“He was always fun to be around whenever I was out there,” she said. “I was always having fun no matter if we were just sitting there are talking. The lake was always his spot.”
The family is asking if anyone would like to help with the funeral expenses to donate to the GoFundMe page.
