Death toll reaches 224 from destructive earthquake in Colombia, at least 572 injured
COLOMBIA (KLKN) — A 7.4 earthquake hit Colombia on Monday, leaving behind a vast trail of destruction and tragedy. As of today, 224 people have been confirmed dead and at least 572 have been left injured.
The community has come together to clear a path for trapped victims as they fight to stay alive under the rubble.
According to ABC, at least 239 are believed to be trapped in rubble.
The U.S. State Department announced a $15.5 million assistance for Colombia, going to emergency shelter, food and protection. Along with that, a Disaster Assistance Response Team has been deployed, aiming to help plan and take action during the critical hours.
The country’s president, Abelardo de la Espriella, has declared a national disaster.
