Bob Downey, the President and CEO of Capital Humane Society, celebrated his last day on the job Tuesday after 36 and a half years.

Family, friends, and even the furry friends lined up in their vehicles Tuesday at Standing Bear Grounds in Lincoln to wish Bob Downey a congratulations on his well deserved retirement.

People brought signs and stayed in their vehicles due to the coronavirus, driving one by one to say a few words to the Lincoln native and to give their best wishes on his new adventure.

Downey told Channel 8 Eyewitness News reporter Alexa Skonieski he is thankful, beyond thankful for everything and all the support he has received over the years. He looks forward to being on his own schedule in retirement and will be taking many trips to the gym.

Downey started at the Capital Humane Society back in January of 1984.
