Driver flips semi over west of Lincoln after reaching for coffee cup, the patrol says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A driver flipped over a semi-truck on I-80 west of Lincoln after reaching for a coffee cup, the Nebraska State Patrol said.

Troopers responded to the crash around 7 a.m. on Wednesday near the Northwest 98th Street I-80 exit.

The patrol says the driver drifted off the road and tipped his tractor-trailer while reaching for a cup of coffee.

The driver was not seriously injured in the crash and refused medical treatment, the patrol said.

Only one vehicle was involved in the crash but the state patrol said a chemical material spilled out of the truck.

Trooper Marcus Warne tells Channel 8 the material was an anti-bacterial for food, which has a corrosive plaque in it.

The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department arrived to check out the spill and said it didn’t appear to be a threat to the public.

I-80 westbound was not closed off due to the crash, the patrol said.
