Drunk driver found unconscious in truck, accidentally hits responding ambulance

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — On Wednesday, July 29, at around 2 a.m., Lincoln Police Department (LPD) approached a stopped vehicle in the road Hwy 77. Jayce Brown, 21, was stopped in his pickup truck on the northbound exit to west O Street.

Brown was found unconscious. Officers with LPD attempted to wake him up repeatedly before calling medical help.

As the officers continued to try to wake him up, Brown’s foot came off the brakes, causing the pickup to hit the responding Lincoln Fire and Rescue ambulance head on. The crash caused $5,000 in damage.

Crews were forced to break a window to remove Brown from his truck safely.

Upon investigation, officers found two open beer cans and a case of beers in the truck. Brown’s blood-alcohol content was 0.179, nearly two and a half times more than the legal driving limit.

Brown was arrested and lodged at the Lancaster County Jail for driving under the influence, careless driving and no proof of financial responsibility.
