Elton John is the recipient of the National Humanities Medal, presented by President Biden.

A farewell performance was done by Elton John at the White House on Setp. 24th to honor everyday heroes like teachers, nurses, and AIDS activists.

President Biden surprised the British singer-songwriter with the medal for being a “tidal wave” that helps people rise up for justice.

“I just said to the first lady, I’m never flabbergasted, but I’m flabbergasted and humbled and honored by this incredible award from the United States of America,” said John I will treasure this so much and it will make me double my efforts to make sure this disease goes away. Your kindness, America’s kindness to me as a musician is second to none. But in the war against AIDS and HIV, it’s even bigger and I can’t thank you enough. I’m really, I’m really emotional about this. Thank you.” Elton John said about the award.

During the event, President Biden gave remarks that celebrated the unifying and healing powers of music. He also honored every day history-makers in the audience.
