Explosions heard south of Lincoln overnight

As flames tore through a construction business

LANCASTER COUNTY, Neb. (KLKN) — Flames completely destroyed a large building southwest of Bennet overnight, leading to reported explosions.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s office tells us the building at 11811 Roca Road belongs to a construction business.

Subzero conditions and heavy damage to the structure made this fire extremely difficult to battle.

Crews ultimately made the decision to let it burn itself out.

We’re told heavy machinery, vehicles, gas and other equipment stored inside likely caused the loud noises.

This has been declared a total loss, but an exact estimate on the damage could take days to determine.

At one point the upper level collapsed, showing how dangerous this would have been if firefighters were more aggressive.

Authorities say this doesn’t appear to be suspicious and no one was hurt.

The Fire Marshal is investigating to determine a cause.
