Explosive fire in eastern Nebraska claims Quonset and injures one

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Firefighters responded to an explosive blaze north of Mead on Wednesday night.

The Mead Fire Department was called to the area of Q and 11 Roads just after 10 p.m.

A Quonset hut was found engulfed in flames and exploding.

In photos released by the department, the structure appears to have been destroyed.

Firefighters say muddy conditions hindered their response, and one person was injured.

Wahoo Fire & Rescue transported the injured person to a Lincoln hospital.

Firefighters from Yutan, Wahoo, Valley, Colon and Fremont also responded to the scene.

The Mead department says this call was the 10th it responded to in a span of 72 hours.
