FEMA funds to cover funeral costs for COVID-related deaths
At this time, these funds are only applicable to New York families.
CORONA, Queens (WABC) — Monday, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) will now help to cover the cost of COVID-related funeral and burial costs for low-income families in New York.
Families can be reimbursed up to $7,000. The initiative is funded by $2 billion worth of disaster funds, $260 million of which is specifically set aside for New Yorkers.
The funding is intended to alleviate the suffering of New York families in communities like Corona, Queens which was the epicenter of the pandemic when it first hit.
