First responders and deputies almost struck on I-80

YORK, Neb. (KLKN) — This morning, deputies with the York County Sheriff’s Office and emergency responders were assisting a semi-truck crash when they were almost struck by a vehicle.

One of the K-9 units at the scene was directing traffic into the driving lane. A vehicle traveling around 75 mph entered the closed passing lane. The vehicle struck a control light beacon.

After hitting the beacon, the vehicle immediately merged into the driving lane, cutting off a semi-truck. As the vehicle switched lanes, it almost hit a parked K-9 unit that was blocking the crash and first responders.

Deputies stopped the car shortly after. The driver was arrested for willful reckless driving and criminal mischief.

York County Sheriff’s Office urges drivers to take precautions when approaching a crash scene by slowing down and moving over.
