LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Gov. Pete Ricketts announced Thursday that state flags will fly at half-staff in remembrance of the one million Americans lost to COVID-19.

The announcement was made in accordance with a proclamation from the White House, a press release says.

At a COVID-19 summit Thursday, President Joe Biden announced that the U.S. had reached a “tragic milestone” of one million deaths.

Biden also called on Congress to provide an additional $22.5 billion for testing, vaccines and treatments.

During the summit, Biden said that addressing COVID-19 “must remain an international priority.”

Flags will be flown at half-staff beginning immediately.  They will return to full staff on Monday night.
