Former coach Tom Osborne first living member of Nebraska Hall of Fame

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Former head Nebraska football coach Tom Osborne was unanimously voted into the Nebraska Hall of Fame. Osborne is the first living inductee.

Osborne was the Husker football coach from 1973 to 1997, winning three national championships.

The state legislature passed a law in order for Osborne to get in. The law said any person inducted must be deceased for at least 35 years before they can be considered.

In a unanimous vote, 7-0, Osborne was able to be inducted.

Gov. Jim Pillen said Osborne deserves nothing less than the induction.

“Coach is more than deserving of this honor,” Pillen said. “Through his public service, leadership in college athletics, and the impact of the TeamMates Mentoring Program, he has changed the lives of thousands of Nebraskans.”
