Former Lincoln priest cited for giving alcohol to a minor

Lincoln Police say a former priest was cited for giving alcohol to a minor.

LPD said that in July of 2017, Father Charles Townsend, 57, provided alcohol to a 19-year-old at a Lincoln residence.

The teenager became drunk and was later driven home by Townsend, police said.

Townsend was cited last week.

The citation was part of the collaborative investigation into the Lincoln Catholic Diocesan staff that was announced on September 6th, 2018.

LPD continues to work with the Lincoln Catholic Diocese, the Lancaster County Attorney, and Nebraska Attorney General to look into past and present criminal misconduct by diocesan staff.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact LPD Investigator Cockle at 402.441.8980.
