Foundation created by Larry the Cable Guy hosts benefit dinner in Lincoln Haymarket

Sunday night was the start of the annual Git-R-Done Foundation’s Celebrity Golf Classic.

It’s headlined by its founder, famous Nebraskan Larry the Cable Guy.

The event kicked off with a dinner and live auction in the Lincoln Haymarket.

The Git-R-Done Foundation seeks to help children and veterans, one cause at a time.

The cause for this year is the Bryan Health Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

“Bryan Health does so many great things for the community, we just love supporting them. They always come to us with something new that they developed or came up with,” said Dan Whitney (commonly known as Larry the Cable Guy).

Sunday night’s dinner and live auction was attended by many local celebrities, including husker men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg and Miss Nebraska, Lex Najarian, among others.

“I’m just very thankful, I’ve got awesome fans and have been blessed enough to be able to start a foundation and give back… This is great! When you can go as a celebrity and you can play golf and raise money for organizations like this, and for the kids, it’s a win-win situation,” said Whitney.

On Monday, everyone will take to the Firethorn golf course to have some fun and raise even more money.

Whitney says celebrities John Daly, Joe Theisman, and Charlie Rymers are all going to be there.

This event was moved from Orlando to Lincoln a few years ago.

Whitney says it was a great decision, especially after convincing some current husker coaches to get involved.

“We got Scott Frost, we got Fred Hoiberg. Doc Sadler is coming out again. I get all of the husker coaches involved.”
