Friends organize giant fundraiser for injured Crete baseball coach

CRETE, NEB. (KLKN) – One Crete baseball coach’s friends are coming together in a big way.

Aaron Mason was severely injured after a car accident in December, and still has a long road to recovery.

To help offset the medical expenses, Mason’s friends Mitchell Homolka and Trevor Varley organized a fundraiser and spaghetti night in Crete Sunday afternoon.

Over 400 members of the community gathered to support the Mason family through donations and auctions.

“Within five minutes of opening up the doors, people were flooding in,” Varley said. “It’s exactly what we were hoping for.”

The organizers were hoping to raise around $4,000, but the number of donations will likely far succeed that.
