Friendship Home, Two Men and a Truck are helping moms in need this Mother’s Day
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Friendship Home and Two Men and a Truck have partnered to help mothers in need this Mother’s Day.
The shelter will be accepting donated summer toys and necessities all across Lincoln.
Deanna Whittemore of Two Men and a Truck said the campaign gives back to mothers in need in the community.
“We always do it around Mother’s Day every year as a way to give back to the struggling mothers in the area, no matter what they’re dealing with,” she said. “So out here in Lincoln, we are specifically working with the Friendship Home, who deals with domestic abuse survivors and trying to get them back on their feet.”
Friendship Home plans to collect up to 600 donations for over 40 families this Mother’s Day.
Nicole Palmer of Friendship Home said it’s accepting anything from bubbles to sunscreen at the donation boxes.
“This time of year, we need summer toys, and so we were looking for bubbles and scooters and anything children would enjoy using outside,” she said.
Palmer said even though the donation wish list includes toys for children, Friendship Home isn’t limiting the donations.
“We can’t forget the sunscreen and the bug spray, and then just fun things even for Mom, like sunglasses,” she said.
The Movers for Moms campaign wants to provide a sense of normalcy for moms in the shelter and remind them that no matter their situation, they’ll be provided with the essentials they need to make them feel at home.
“Including those fun things that moms and kids need to enjoy this nice weather after Mother’s Day weekend,” Palmer said.
The campaign will be accepting donations until May 11 at several locations across Lincoln:
- Lincoln Federal Bank locations
- Coldwell Banker NHS
- Summit Falls
- KW Lincoln
- Bridge to Better Living
- Flats at 48th
- Remax Concepts
