Gov. Ricketts promotes Nebraska products in Japan

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Gov. Pete Ricketts, for the fourth time, is leading a weeklong trade mission to Tokyo.

Representatives of Nebraska businesses and government agency are abroad with Ricketts until Saturday.

Nebraska is the first state to meet with Japan after the nation’s legislature approved changes that will lower tariffs on beef imports.

Japan is the state’s largest market for pork and second-largest market for beef, sales of which to Japan have increased by $215 million since 2015.

Also, Japan is Nebraska’s third-largest market for corn exports and is an emerging market for ethanol.

Ricketts was in Japan earlier this month to receive one of the nation’s highest honors.
