Grand Island Habitat for Humanity victim to estimated $20,000 theft

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KLKN) — The Grand Island Police Department (GIPD) announced an ongoing investigation regarding a theft at Habitat for Humanity’s construction site.

GIPD Division Chief Dean Elliot said the estimated value stolen was more than $20,000 in concrete forms.

The concrete forms, metal aluminum molds that were stored on pallets, were stolen anytime between July 24 and Aug. 7. Since they were stored outside, there was no need for the suspect(s) to break in.

According to Elliot, there was no cameras at the site but investigators are reaching out to surrounding residential houses.

Elliot said there could be two plausible situations. Either another construction company, local or out of town, may have stolen the concrete forms to use for their own purposes or someone may be breaking them apart to sell them as scrap aluminum.

Investigators have reached out to local scrap dealers who confirm no one has brought anything in.
