Grand Island K-9 dies after being struck by car

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KLKN) — On Sept. 29, Cello, a Grand Island Police Department (GIPD) K-9, passed away after being struck by a vehicle while he was off duty.
Cello was immediately taken to the veterinary, but his injuries were too severe.
Cello was a Dutch Shephard. He was sworn into service in Aug. 2024.
GIPD said Cello carried a meaningful legacy because he was named after the late GIPD Investigator Christopher Marcello, who passed in 2022.
“To his handler, Officer Zumya, and the entire GIPD family, Cello was more than an active officer; he was a fiercely loyal partner, a protector, and a cherished family member,” GIPD wrote in a social media post.
