Gunman killed at Target in west Omaha, police say

OMAHA, Neb. (KLKN) – A gunman at a Target in west Omaha has been killed, police said Tuesday.

Officers were sent to the store near 180th Street and West Center Road around noon after receiving at least 29 calls about an active shooter.

The Omaha Police Department said officers entered the building and ordered the gunman, a white man in his 30s, to drop the rifle multiple times.

An officer then shot the suspect, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The gunman was a white male in his 30s, according to Police Chief Todd Schmaderer.

He will not be identified until his next of kin is notified, the department said.

Police said the shooter fired an AR-15-style rifle multiple times inside the store. He had 13 loaded magazines, according to the department.

But police did not find any victims inside the store or at local hospitals.

An 18-year-old worker at Target, Elianne Robinson, took a video that captured the sound of one of the gunshots.

The store will be closed until Thursday.

The Omaha Police Department said on Twitter that shoppers can pick up any property they left at the store on Wednesday.

You can go to the west entrance of the Target, where staffers will help you retrieve your things.
