Health department urges Lincoln residents to get the flu vaccine
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD) is reminding residents to get the flu vaccine.
“There is no way to predict exactly when flu activity will rise or how severe the season will be,” Kerry Kernen, the health director, said. “Getting vaccinated now gives your body a chance to build some protection before we see a significant increase in flu.”
According LLCHD, flu activity is currently low in Lincoln and Lancaster County.
They said certain people are at greater risk, including adults 65 years and older, adults with chronic health conditions, pregnant people and children younger than 5.
LLCHD said other respiratory viruses also increase over the winter months, including COVID-19 and RSV.
