Heavy rain brings flooding to Lincoln, several overnight responses from LFR

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Torrential rainfall brought flash flooding to Lincoln late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue called out to several water rescues overnight. From the Lincoln Transportation and Utilities camera, several boat rescues could be seen at the 11th St. and Cornhusker Hwy. intersection.

There are several roads around Lancaster County that are closed as of 4 a.m. Thursday.

Those include:

  • S. 14th St. north of Saltillo Rd.
  • S. 38th St. south of Roca Rd. and north of Martell Rd.
  • SW 2nd St., between Highway 33 and Sprague Rd.
  • Intersection of Raymond Rd. and NW 1st St.
  • SW 40th St. between A St. and O St.
  • N 112th St. between Alvo Rd. and Highway 6
  • SW 86th St. between W. Panama Rd. and W. Olive Creek Rd.
  • Intersection of Waverly Rd. and 134th St.
  • W. Agnew Rd. east of N. 14th St. to N. 27th St.
  • SW 56th St. between W. Claire Ave. and W. Pioneers Blvd.
  • W. Old Cheney Rd. between SW 56th St. and SW 84th

Nebraska 511 also shared a post saying a portion of Highway 77 had to be shut down to due flooding, but that has since been reopened.

The flooding threat is not over either, even though there will be significantly less rain on Thursday.

Experts are now keeping an eye on crest levels for local rivers and creeks. The Salt Creek and Antelope Creek are both very high right now in Lincoln.
