UPDATE: Herrera’s funeral set for Saturday

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —  On the day of the funeral, The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is requesting assistance from Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, University of Nebraska Police, and Nebraska State Patrol to respond to calls for service within the city limits.  If you need to make a report or have an emergency, be aware that you may see an agency other than LPD responding to you.

LPD says Pinnacle Bank Arena will be open to the public at 8:30 a.m. for Herrera’s funeral service. There will also be a clear bag policy in place, so please plan accordingly. Some prohibited items include umbrellas, empty plastic water bottles, and tinted plastic bags.


The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) has announced that there will be a funeral held for Investigator Mario Herrera this Saturday. The public is invited, but the open door time has not yet been announced.

The funeral is set to begin at 10 a.m. at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Channel 8 will be covering and streaming the funeral live, including aerial video from an NSP helicopter, both on-air and online starting at 8 a.m. Saturday. It will also be streamed on LNKTV.

Public parking will be available at Pinnacle Bank Arena’s Festival Lot. LPD are asking attendees to park in this lot and walk over the pedestrian bridge to the arena

A pre-funeral procession will begin at 8:30 a.m., beginning at Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home. They will travel east on “A” Street, south on S. 48th Street to Normal Boulevard. The procession will continue northwest on Normal Blvd toward downtown, turning north on Antelope Valley Parkway, west on N Street, then north on Pinnacle Arena Drive until reaching the arena.

A post-funeral procession will follow Pinnacle Arena Drive north, veering right at N. 9th Street to travel south. It will continue south on N. 9th Street, turning east on “O” Street, south on S. 27th Street, east on Randolph Street, then north on S. 40th Street to “O” Street, where it will end.

A memorial has been placed in the front of the Hall of Justice, 575 S 10th Street. Cards and gift cards will be accepted at that location by an officer standing by. Due to COVID-19 concerns, LPD is asking people to avoid coming into the stations to drop items off. If you are interested in bringing items to officers, call dispatch at 402-441-6000.
