Hickman business bursts into flames

The  entire town of Hickman was asked to conserve water Saturday afternoon after an explosion caused a fire too big for just one volunteer fire fighting team to handle.

“I saw the big flames and then shortly after I was there I did hear an explosion a small explosion but it was some type of explosion,” said witness Melody Dykmann.

Emergency management officials say just before 2:30 Saturday, The Fine line auto body shop burst into flames after an explosion.

Luckily for surrounding businesses and passers by Hickman Fire Chief  Stan Draper was at lunch right across the street.

“When I came out we had the heavy smoke coming out of the overhead door to the front, ” Draper said, “and then we came out and it had spread through the whole building.

It was a big fire one the *small hickman volunteer fire department knew they couldn't handle themselves.

“When I saw it I called for Firth fire right away and then as the heat and humidity we called Halom and Crete, Southeast and Southwest for additional manpower,” Fire Chief Draper said.

They also called on the community the asked residents to conserve water so the numerous fire teams would have enough to put out the fire before spreading to other nearby buildings.

THE BODY SHOP'S NORTHSIDE NEIGHBORS WERE UNTOUCHED…THE SOUTHSIDE BUILDING,

When I came out we had the heavy smoke coming out of the overhead door to the front and then we came out and it had spread through the whole building.

The body shop's northside neighbors were untouched, the southside building, however, was slightly damaged.

The body shop was a total loss.

The Hickman fire marshall says he will not have a cause of the fire or total damages until monday,  but he says he expects it to be high since the entire building was effected… And several cars were in there as well.
