Hickman grandmother scammed out of $25k

Hickman, Neb. (KLKN) — A grandmother loses 25,000 dollars following a month-long scam.

An 88-year-old victim in Hickman was contacted by someone claiming to be her granddaughter’s lawyer. The caller said her granddaughter was stuck in a Florida jail and need money to get out.

The woman had already sent 25,000 dollars to the caller, and was preparing to send 150,000 dollars, when her bank freezed her account and called the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office (LSO).

LSO determined the call had come out of Canada.

The victim was first contacted on Aug. 26th and the scammer continued to call her until Sept. 14th.
