Highlights from day two of Nebraska track and field championships

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska state track and field championships are underway at Burke Stadium in Omaha.

Classes A and B wrapped up on Thursday.

Creighton Prep won in Class A boys, Papillon La Vista South is the Class A girls champ, Waverly is the Class B boys champion, and Norris won the gold in Class B girls.

Field event highlights

High jump: Ashland-Greenwood’s Lauren Gerdes broke the school record and finished in third place.

Shot put: Sage Burbach of Norris repeated as state champion with a throw of 44 feet, 8.75 inches.

Discus: Lincoln East’s Sam Cappos placed third.

Track event highlights

4×100 meter relay: The Waverly girls clinched the Class B title with a time of 48.64 seconds, and the Waverly boys went back to back while also breaking the Class B record with a time of 42.11.

400 meter: Lincoln East’s Gabe Miles won a state title with his time of 48.81 seconds.

Hurdles: Kate Campos of Lincoln Pius X won the gold in both the 100m and 300m.
